Several wine bars in Naoussa offer curated tastings of Parian and Cycladic wines paired with local mezze — island cheeses, cured meats, and the small plates that define Greek drinking culture. The best are in the backstreets away from the harbour.

The Byzantine Road

A 10-kilometre marble-paved path that has connected Parikia and Naoussa since the Byzantine era. Walk it in the early morning when the light is low and the villages are quiet. The route passes through Lefkes, the island's highest village, and several small churches.

Marathi marble quarries trail

A short walk from the village of Marathi to the ancient quarries that produced the translucent Parian marble used in the Venus de Milo. Walk into the tunnels, see the ancient tool marks still visible in the stone, and understand why this island mattered to the ancient world.

Lefkes to Prodromos village walk

A gentle two-hour walk between two of the island's most beautiful inland villages, following old kalderimi paths through terraced fields and past abandoned windmills. The views across the interior are some of the best on the island.

Cooking class with a local family

Morning ride through the interior

A two-hour guided ride through the olive groves and terraced fields of the island's interior, following old mule paths between the villages of Marpissa and Prodromos. The horses are well-trained and the pace is gentle. No experience necessary.

Wreck dive — the Ekatontapiliani

A guided dive to one of the island's most interesting wrecks — a small cargo vessel that sank in the 1960s and now lies at 28 metres off the western coast. The wreck is encrusted with marine life and largely intact. Suitable for certified divers with open water experience.

Sea cave snorkelling — Kolymbithres

A guided snorkelling session through the sea caves and rock formations at Kolymbithres, where the granite has been sculpted by millennia of waves into tunnels, arches, and hidden pools. The marine life here is exceptional — octopus, sea bream, and occasional sea turtles.

Antiparos — cave and village

A short ferry or water taxi to Antiparos, the small island directly to the west. The cave of Antiparos is one of the most impressive in the Aegean — a vast stalactite chamber that descends 100 metres into the rock. The village above is one of the quietest and most beautiful in the Cyclades.

Naxos — the largest Cycladic island

A fast ferry to Naxos takes forty minutes. Spend the day in the old town, visit the Portara — the unfinished temple of Apollo that stands at the harbour entrance — and eat lunch at one of the restaurants in the Kastro. Return on the evening ferry.

The Small Cyclades — Koufonisia

Koufonisia is the most beautiful of the Small Cyclades — a tiny island with turquoise lagoons, a single whitewashed village, and a pace of life that feels entirely removed from the modern world. The ferry from Paros takes two hours. Stay overnight if you can.
